Maemo, Android & the Nokia N900

This guy has made by far the best and easiest script/tweak for the N900.  Together with power-kernel 47 and Uptimes up to 20 days. My N900 has been extended with some life juice For the whole story check Maemo.org to be sure what you are doing.

Android 2.3.3 (GRI40)

• New Gapps preinstalled (market should be downloaded automatically after login to google account)
• USB Mass Storage support
• Accelerometer ‘agressive mode’ for games.
• Wi-Fi RSSI fixed (signal strength icon in status bar)
• Video playback (youtube, mediaplayer) fixed
• Ofono 0.45. Improved ofono/ril startup logic in init.rc script (no endless no-network anymore)
• ElectronBeam effect
• Latest media from CyanogenMod (ring-tones, notification sounds etc)
• Emergency reboot (press shift+Fn(blue arrow) + R + B on hw keyboard for quick reboot without confirmation)

Known issues:

• Market fix wouldn’t work anymore. I hope solution will be found by community:)

For update on your installed NITDroiD use below code:

sudo gainroot

cd /home/user/MyDocs

wget http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/N11_Vostok.tar.bz2

bzip2 -d N11_Vostok.tar.bz2

mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and

cd /and

rm -rf * (this removes all the files from the old installation. there is a "space" between f and the * symbol)

tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/N11_Vostok.tar

cd /home/user/MyDocs

wget http://downloads.nitdroid.com/e-yes/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-06_final1_armel.deb

dpkg -i nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-06_final1_armel.deb

umount /and

reboot and enjoy!

As seen on this website Kubuntu Mobile: Maverick Meerkat 10.10. Or better known as :”Kubuntu Mobile Tech Preview” for ARM/i386 distro’s.  Kubuntu has a couple of releases which  are preinstalled (for N900 anyway). I haven’t got it working so far, will keep you posted if I ever will get it working!

For 10.10, Kubuntu has merged the Desktop and Netbook images into one featuring both the Plasma Desktop and Plasma Netbook workspaces. The appropriate workspace for your machine will be launched at login; you can also change the workspace in System Settings.

Required:
- MicroSD card 2GB (pref class 6)
- image from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/meego-codedrop.php (Meego-handset-armv7l-N900-final-mod-1.1.0.0.20101101.3-mmcblk0p.raw.bz2)

Unpack the .bz2 on your computer (i used winrar). Then copy the .raw file to your N900. Don’t unpack it on your cellphone, otherwise it takes ages.

Format the SD card with Fat32.

then the magic

dd bs=2048 if=/home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/meego-handset-armv7l-n900-final-mod-1.1.0.0.20101101.3-mmcblk0p.raw of=/dev/mmcblk1

Note: 2048 for 2GB, 4096 for 4GB card.
