Ubuntu for Android is coming

by on Feb.22, 2012, under Android, Linux, N900, Software

Meet ‘Ubuntu for Android’ – a side-by-side pairing of the Android and Ubuntu OSes on a single phone, the latest part of Canonical’s ‘multi-device’ future for Ubuntu.

Designed to coexist with Android on users’ multicore smartphones, the new version of Ubuntu is designed to launch the full Ubuntu desktop when the phone is docked with a keyboard and monitor. The rest of the time, the phone runs Android as usual.

All data and services are shared between the Ubuntu and Android environments, so Android data and applications such as contacts, telephony, and SMS/MMS messaging are accessible from the Ubuntu interface.

The desktop is the killer app for quad-core phones in 2012,” said Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth in the Canonical announcement. “Ubuntu for Android transforms your high-end phone into your productive desktop, whenever you need it.”

Hackers plan space satellites to combat censorship

by on Dec.31, 2011, under Hacking, Linux

Computer hackers plan to take the internet beyond the reach of censors by putting their own communication satellites into orbit.

The project’s organisers said the Hackerspace Global Grid will also involve developing a grid of ground stations to track and communicate with the satellites. The hacker activist Nick Farr first put out calls for people to contribute to the project in August. He said that the increasing threat of internet censorship had motivated the project.

“The first goal is an uncensorable internet in space. Let’s take the internet out of the control of terrestrial entities,” Mr Farr said.

Need a key for a WiFi network, grab your phone and h4ck it!

by on Jan.18, 2011, under Linux, N900, wifi

The N900 recently became capable of Packet Injection, and this mean that the popular network security tool Aircrack-ng just became a whole lot more potent. While this means that you can now use your N900 to crack WIFI networks, cracking a WIFI network of someone other than your own can still land you in jail.

N900 Hack WIFI

A guy named: FRuMMaGe has wrote these scripts with the following features:

* Enabling/disabling monitor mode and the package injection drivers.
* Fake authentication with aireplay
* Package injection with aireplay
* Decryption with aircrack.
* Changing mac address (depends on macchanger being installed).

by on Oct.14, 2010, under Firmware, Linux, N900

Nokia’s N900 is starting to feel a bit long in the tooth. Sure, it’s powerful, but with all these new versions of Android and iOS popping out almost every few months now, Maemo 5 is beginning to show some signs of aging. We’ve seen the Nokia N9 already, and Eldar Murtazin from Mobile-Review has called the hardware “near perfect” while the software on the other hand, unsurprisingly, is a bit lacking. So what’s going to tide people over between now and early next year when Nokia’s first MeeGo device ships? How does a firmware update that lets you dual boot MeeGo and Maemo on your N900 sound?
